Torah is Like a ,;., Living Tree She is a tree of life Aytz Chai-yim Hi Proverbs 3: 18 A giant redwood tree is alive yet 99 percent of it is dead wood. It has only a skin of living tissue spread thinly at the surface. The Planet is Alive on its Outermost Edge ·.. Our planet, though mostly rock and mostly incandescent or molten, is really alive. Like a tree, its aliveness is on its outermost skin. The idea that our planet is alive and has consciousness was developed by a British biologist and atmospheric chemist, James E. Lovelock. The Brain Evolves on its Outermost Edge_._.:·_·~r·-r-t~· The brain cap is layered like an onion. The outermost layer exercises its control over the older formations. "Our nervous systems are among the most complex structures in existence. They have very old layers covered by less old ones and then more recent \~.,,. layers. Each new layer is a formation that functions more finely ... the newer =.-::~. the structure is, the slower it is." (Feldenkrais, The ElusiveObvious,P. 74). Feldenkrais taught ways to move that brought about the improvement of the functions of this outermost layer of the brain. As we learn new abilities and improve our awareness and control, the older reactions, related to the more inner layers of the onion, disappear-they remain alive ._:~ but are suppressed as long as the newer control is operative. The inhibition power of the newer control lasts only until it is superceded by a yet newer layer of control, or a regression to a lower level occurs. When learning anything, we are becoming alive at a new neural level which is the most outermost layer of the brain. Our greatest aliveness is then seen as occurring on the skin of our brain. Like a tree. Like the planet. Like the brain. The Torah is Most Alive on the Edges of Its Growing. 132_1
