These 16 terms immediately follow the Sh'ma. Ordinarily, they are considered to be proclamations concerning the theme of the Sh'ma. On a deeper level they indicate processes that we may develop in ourselves which will bring our heart in better alignment with "that towards which the Sh'ma points."
